NSF would build shared AI research platform for U.S. academics

What does this do?

This bill would direct the National Science Foundation to create a shared national platform called the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource, or NAIRR. It would give researchers, educators, and students access to computing power, data, software, AI models, and training materials for AI research and education.

Who does it affect?

People affiliated with universities, nonprofits, government agencies, federally funded research centers, and some small businesses could use the platform. Anyone working on behalf of foreign countries identified as national security concerns would be blocked from access.

Why does it matter?

Without a shared platform, many researchers and students may lack access to the computing power and data needed to do AI work. This bill would create a central place to provide those resources nationally.
