Senate bill sets one-year clock on Chinese military company listings

What does this do?

The Non-SDN Chinese Military-Industrial Complex Companies List identifies companies believed to be connected to China's military, and American investors are restricted from investing in those companies. Currently, no deadline requires the Treasury Department to add companies even after the President's report names them as qualifying. S 4581 would create a one-year deadline for the Secretary of the Treasury to officially add those companies and update the published list.

American investors and financial institutions are directly affected because they face restrictions on buying stock in listed companies. People holding certain mutual funds or retirement accounts that include shares of Chinese companies could also be indirectly affected.
