Embeds Terms of Service

1. Scope

These terms apply to any organization ("Tenant") that embeds an Oravan widget under a Free, Pro, Nonprofit, or Network plan, or that accepts these terms through Stripe Checkout. They do not apply to an individual visitor of a Tenant's site, and they do not apply to Oravan's own citizen-facing site, which is governed by a separate, simpler Terms page.

2. Nonpartisan use

Oravan is nonpartisan by construction. A Tenant may not represent an Oravan widget as endorsing, opposing, or taking a position on any candidate, party, or ballot measure; may not frame a widget with advocacy chrome — calls-to-action, imagery, or surrounding copy — that implies Oravan holds or shares the Tenant's stance on any issue; and may not use a widget to capture, solicit, or profile a visitor's political position, party affiliation, or voting intent. Content stays nonpartisan in both English and Spanish, at every tier, with no exceptions.

3. Attribution and AI-content labeling

Free-tier widgets display a "Powered by Oravan" attribution link at all times; it may not be hidden, obscured, or styled to be illegible. Paid tiers may remove the Oravan name from widget chrome ("brandless") but the attribution link itself stays on unless Oravan has granted attribution removal in writing to a licensed partner. The AI-content disclosure label is never removable, hideable, or overridable at any tier — it is a safety and honesty label, not a branding element.

4. Prohibited uses

A Tenant may not:

• inject custom CSS or JavaScript into a widget, or attempt to break the iframe's isolation from the host page;
• scrape, bulk-download, or programmatically re-request widget or feed data beyond normal rate limits, or use that data to build a competing lookup or bill-decode product;
• sublicense, resell, or share a capability token with any organization other than the Tenant itself, absent a written Network-tier agreement naming that organization;
• misrepresent the source, ownership, or neutrality of embedded content, or alter AI-generated text without disclosing the alteration.

5. Token responsibility and domain allowlist

A Tenant is responsible for keeping its capability token confidential and for any use of the widget that token authorizes. The domain allowlist Oravan checks against a widget's Referer/Origin is a best-effort convenience, not a security guarantee — a determined actor can strip or spoof that header. Oravan may rotate or revoke a Tenant's token at any time on suspicion of compromise, abuse, or a violation of these terms, with notice to the Tenant's billing email where practical. A Tenant may request rotation at any time by contacting Oravan.

6. Licensing exclusions

No embed, at any tier, includes outlet political-lean ratings or any other content from Oravan's "Read" coverage section. That data is licensed to Oravan on a non-commercial basis and is never distributed through any paid or embeddable surface.

7. Billing

Paid plans are billed and processed through Stripe; Oravan does not separately store payment details. Plans are self-serve, cancel-anytime, and monthly or annual as selected at checkout, except Network-tier agreements, which are billed as separately negotiated.

8. No warranty; freshness

Oravan provides the embeds product on a best-effort basis, with no warranty of uptime, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. Bill and representative data is refreshed nightly and can be briefly delayed or incorrect; AI-generated content can contain mistakes and is never a substitute for the official bill text linked from every response.

9. Governing law

11. Changes to these terms

Oravan may update these terms from time to time. The version in effect at the moment a Tenant accepts these terms through Stripe Checkout is the version that governs that Tenant's use, unless a materially revised version is separately communicated and re-accepted.
